Has your smile lost its luster? Teeth whitening can be the solution that transforms your smile from stained back to sparkling.
You’ve probably noticed that teeth can darken over time. Over time, certain things can dim the sparkle of your smile. Drinks such as coffee, tea, and soda contribute to this, along with certain foods, medications, illnesses, and improper oral hygiene.
How Does Teeth Whitening Work?
Teeth whitening works in two ways: it either removes enamel surface stains or changes the color of the dentin. Most over-the-counter teeth whitening products work to remove surface stains and can lighten your teeth a shade or two if used regularly.
Professional teeth whitening can bring your more dramatic results - whitening up to seven shades lighter with results lasting two to three years.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
Restoring your natural white smile is a priority for our dental team! We are proud to offer you Zoom Advanced Power—proven to be the best product available. We also use Opalescence by Ultradent for the whitening gels in the custom trays, and Tres White by Ultradent for disposable whitening trays.
Zoom Teeth Whitening
Yes! Dr. Jon, DDS offers Zoom whitening in our Lincoln, CA dental office.
Zoom teeth whitening is an in-office bleaching process that uses a whitening gel activated by a special light. The Zoom gel is applied to your teeth for three 15-minute light activation sessions, for a total treatment time of about 45 minutes. You’ll receive a Zoom touch-up kit to take home after the procedure.
Opalescence Tooth Whitening
Opalescence teeth whitening is an in-office bleaching process that does not require a special light. A hydrogen peroxide power bleaching gel is applied to your teeth for 10 - 15 minutes sessions, lasting up to one to two hours, depending on the level of tooth discoloration and results you want to achieve.
Opalescence contains a patented mix of ingredients designed to reduce the risk of sensitivity associated with whitening and strengthen enamel.
Tres White Tooth Whitening
Tres White provides powerful bleaching with convenient pre-filled disposable trays. No impressions or molds are needed. Tres White is a great alternative to over-the-counter whitening products, providing a deeper bleach and offering the same teeth strengthening and sensitivity reducing ingredients as Opalescence.
For best results, professional teeth whitening is best done immediately following a dental cleaning.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS of Teeth Whitening?
The benefits of teeth whitening include:
- Least costly cosmetic procedure
- Easy, quick, and painless process
- Immediate results
How Much Does In-Office Teeth Whitening Cost?
Professional, in-office teeth whitening is the most popular and least costly cosmetic dentistry procedure. The costs will vary depending on which process you and Dr. Jon choose to use.
The average cost of in-office whitening procedures is $500 - $650. These procedures require only one trip to the dentist yielding instant, noticable results.
The average cost of a take-home whitening procedure is $300 - $400. Take-home whitening is more effective than over-the-counter products while still being less costly than an in-office procedure. Results typically appear after 2 weeks of daily use.
How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?
Professional teeth whitening results are instantly noticeable and long-lasting. Our patients enjoy bright smiles for two to three years after a treatment. We can also provide you with a take-home kit to extend and maintain your results.
Naturally, there’s things you can do to keep your smile looking bright and beautiful.
Once we help you achieve the bright white smile you’re after, eat an apple, celery, or carrots daily… they make saliva that helps clean stains from your teeth naturally! Make sure to use a good electric toothbrush and toothpaste to help keep surface stains off. If you notice darkening starting to happen again, a couple touch-up sessions with either a custom or disposable whitening tray will help keep that perfect smile!
Is Professional Teeth Whitening Right for You?
Most smiles can benefit from professional teeth whitening. Professional whitening is great for stains caused by:
- Aging
- Certain foods and beverages (coffee, red wine, sodas)
- Tobacco use
Not every smile can get the same results from whitening, however. Some stains may be resistant to teeth whitening, such as tooth discoloration from fluorosis, or those that have been stained by trauma causing the dentin to darken. People with severe sensitivity, peroxide allergies, gum disease, or worn enamel may not be good candidates for these types of whitening procedures. In these cases, Dr. Jon may recommend porcelain veneers or other option to give you a healthy, bright white smile.
